Twilight and sunrise bring secrets that must be seen to be believed - come at those times and you can experience the Falls in all their majesty, any noise or distraction melting away into stillness before nature’s grandest show.

Stepping into the Iguazu National Park and taking the dirt trail that leads to Belmond Hotel das Cataratas is nothing short of a thrill. Meandering along at 30 km per hour, one can only hope that a jaguar might cross their path. As the hotel beckons closer and closer, the sound of the magnificent waterfalls reverberates louder and louder in all its incredible power. As they arrive, little droplets of steam wetting their face, they can’t help but be mesmerized by the breathtaking view before them – a glorious strawberry and cream coloured edifice right on the front line of nature’s grandest spectacle.

The building was built in 1958 in a Portuguese colonial style in a pink tone with white details in the friezes, balustrades and cornice, which make it a very characteristic and beautiful piece of architecture. The interior design has a harmonious blend of history and environment. Solid wood predominates, with creaky floors, wide staircases and furniture that looks like something out of an antique shop, combining perfectly with the tropical prints of the curtains and the paintings containing sheets of amazonian parrots and orchid species. The Portuguese style brings us handpainted tiles and we can see them in the bathrooms and on some of the walls in the living rooms.

At Belmond Hotel das Cataratas there are experiences for everyone. From a relaxing afternoon by the pool accompanied by a caipirinha to the obligatory Macuco Tour, which you can book in the concierge area of the hotel and which they will be happy to organise for you.
The gastronomic offer is of a superior category. The Ipe restaurant, next to the pool, is an informal buffetstyle proposal but of exceptional quality, with grilled meats cooked to order, perfectly prepared side dishes and mini desserts that take your breath away.

In the evening, you must be seen at Itaipu, the a la carte restaurant with a terrace overlooking the Falls where you can enjoy the most colourful and brilliant sunset. There you should order the best beef tenderloin you’ve ever tasted accompanied by risotto.
The next day, if you are an early riser, enjoy the great breakfast buffet and then it is highly recommended to walk to the Falls along the various paths and walkways, as the Park is open from 9 to 5. Outside these hours you will have the luxury of being alone in front of the most beautiful waterfalls in the world.
